Meiyang Liu, Stanford ‘08
Special Project: Worked with AHS’ Language and Cultural Access Program (LCAP) to develop a project targeting language and literacy issues in health care. The project had three components - one assessing communication between providers and interpreters, another on literacy and the ability of patients to read AHS literature, and a third exploring alternate modalities of health education.
Julie Thatsaphone, UC Santa Cruz ‘08
Special Project: Worked with the Development team to advance and help complete the “Revive Chinatown Project.” This project was begun in response to community demands for improved pedestrian safety in Chinatown. The final report will analyze ways in which pedestrian safety has been at risk and propose clear-cut solutions to the City of Oakland.
Jin Xiu, Stanford ‘05
Special Project: Worked with a staff physician on the initial phase of the Advance Directives Project, with the goal of developing a new model of discussing end of life issues that is both culturally sensitive and easy to understand. The initial phase assessed the many barriers to addressing and completing Advance Directive forms by physicians.

Special Project: Worked with the Management team to develop fact sheets for all of AHS’ Special Programs. The final products will serve as publicity materials highlighting the many innovations in health care delivery that AHS has spearheaded in the past several years.
